blue jeans.

Blue has always been one of my favourite colours even since I was a little girl. I was a tomboy at heart and my mother had painted my room a pale pink. It took some persistence but I managed to get it painted a nice sky blue (similar shade to Andy's room sans the clouds which now that I think about it would have been a great idea) and I forced my mum to only buy me bed sheets that are blue. To this day she's still kept her word.

I still gravitate towards blues, navy and everything in between. Blue is basically the colour of my wardrobe (excluding black of course). Even the colour way of my pretty little Pashli is actually called denim. Speaking of denim, I've said it before but these Skin 5's are the perfect fit jeans. Resisting the urge to buy them in every other colour despite the fact it's (for the majority) far too warm to wear skin tight clothes. There's also nothing quite like a classic, clean, blue button up. Always appropriate, always fresh. Jack's intense growing interest in menswear has had a subconscious effect on my choices also. Crisp shirts, polished loafers. He's definitely giving me a run for my money in the fashion department. When he gets his tailored suits back, I'll prove it.

denim & leather.

Chambray shirt (from Japan), Kahlo leather skirt, Dieppa Restrepo loafers.

Kicking off the year with two of my favourite buys from 2012. This Kahlo leather skirt has seen me through summer winter and summer again (not to mention the countless times I get honked at while waiting at the bus stop in it) and my chambray shirt was a purchase from my trip to Japan (almost a year ago now). I don't really believe in New Year's resolutions - I don't think New Year's should be reason to wipe the slate clean. You can change your routine, your habits, your behaviour any day, any week, any month of the year. Most of the time new year's resolutions seem to fail after the first week of January because there's no real motivation for change. Moral of the story: Change what you want to change, when you want to change. I promised myself I'd go back to the gym after I finished semester and I've been doing just that. This however has seen me foster an obsession with Nike fitness gear. I've bought more Nike in the last month than anything else (which might be a good thing) - but more on that in the not so distant future.

Despite my anti-resolution stance, I have set myself a style resolution to buy more staples and investments and less trend-driven/ impulse purchases. My judgement on what is and what isn't worth the money is slowly improving but I sometimes find myself drawn to pieces that everyone else is coveting. Well here's to another year of finding my signature style!

underneath it all.

Dress Up tank, sass & bide shorts, Dieppa Restrepo loafers, Forever 21 fedora, Ellery sunglasses.

No, not some reference to fancy undergarments under this no-fuss, low key look. The title is merely a tribute to my once-again discovered love for front woman, designer and mother extraordinaire (with the six pack), Gwen Stefani. After creating a party playlist a few weeks back with plenty of late 90's and early 00's nostalgia, tracks like Underneath It All, Hey Baby, Hella Good and Let Me Blow Ya Mind have been on repeat.

The best part about this look is that is was taken by the BFF who has had minimal experience behind the camera (last time we tried this was just over a year ago when neither of us had any photography knowledge which consequently made all our photos overexposed and beyond editing-repairable). Perhaps it's her ability to "make her subject feel comfortable" (exhibit A: first image) or her extensive knowledge of blogs and editorials, whatever it is, I'm proud of her first work of art. Expect more from DNav - I'm training her up so that she'll be taking masterpieces by the time we get to Bali in February that may even end up winning the Pedestrian.tv Photography awards in 2013. We can only hope.

purchase party.

Dieppa Restrepo loafer, Dress Up tank and Maison Balzac candle (both from My Chameleon), Joe's Jeans denim.

The most satisfying purchases often come at the most unsuitable of times.Yes I may have resulted to a mini spending spree in the middle of the final week of classes for the year as a way of maintaining my sanity and slightly increase my happiness levels. Don't judge. I know you're normally supposed to mark the end of semester with something special but I've clearly decided to arrive a little too early to the party. Looks like I won't have the cashola to make that celebratory purchase happen anyway. But I am more than content with what is laid out in front of me.

Cannot rave on enough about these Dieppa Restrepo loafers. The quality of the leather is incredible and I survived a whole day traversing across the city in them and no blisters. It's certainly a huge jump from my canvas Topshop ones that look more like grandma's bed slippers than a classier version of ballet flats. And as for that Dress Up tank which has so cleverly blended into my bed sheets - don't ever underestimate the power of a simple but well cut cotton top. Easy and breezy. It's like that skin colour pencil in the box of your Faber Castell's. You don't find it absolutely essential to the set but without it you're completely lost (I mean you can't colour anyone's skin in!). I'm heading towards the home stretch - an essay, a reflective journal and a marketing exam all happening early next week. My mind is already in holiday mode
