C O A C H E L L A

Coachella is back for 2011. For some that means three days of brilliant live music but for others it means style hunting and drooling over fab festival fashion.

I love seeing what celebs wear to festivals (especially Coachella, that's where they all come out to play). It's their chance to blow of some steam and our chance to check out their street style, even when they think we're not looking!) It's all simple/ practical pieces, comfortable yet stylish to keep you looking and feeling 'cool' - shirts, denim cut-offs, vintage dresses, muscle singlets etc. (and it's an easy enough look for anyone to recreate). And to top it all off a store-all over the shoulder sling bag, giant sunnies and plenty of accessories. Accessorising is a must and really adds to that to boho hippie chic look (a la Vanessa Hudgens with rings, necklaces, bracelets, feather hair pieces a plenty).

Here are the first drop of pics of celebs chilling at Coachella, and certainly some of my festival style picks. Katy Perry was an unexpected entry - I'm loving the feminine tiered lace maxi with a matching headband. It reminds me of her early days.

Hollywood has a new 'it' girl (or rather 'it' girls). The girls of Suckerpunch are my current obsession so I was delighted to see them grace the covers of Nylon on the newsstand. Nylon has released five different covers for each girl this edition (I am yet to see any other cover but Vanessa Hudgens in the flesh). And they have an incredible eleven page spread which is more text than images (hooray!), the shots featured are in the montage above.

I have a huge respect for the Suckerpunch girls especially because they did all their own stunts. They had intense training during pre-production where they did all these drills/ exercises and reps that (according to my boyfriend) are used by MMA fighters. And they all had to learn how to dead lift/ clean and jerk with weights. Their will and determination during that period I think really helps them tap into their characters - they're strong willed, independent and kick-ass! It's a relief to see heroines in lead roles in an action film.

I really love Nylon's styling in all their shoots and this one is no exception. It's really street cred, easy chic, everyday looks - I think I like it because it's a look that i could recreate with my own wardrobe (even if the pieces aren't as expensive)

The only thing that irks me is Emily Browning's cover. I absolutely adore her, she's definitely come a long way since A Series of Unfortunate Events, and it always makes me proud to see Aussies making it in Hollywood. But her outfit is a little weird... the sweater reminds me of a 90's Party of Five/ 90210 wardrobe and the fact it has the circle contrast only brings more attention to her breasts (and the petal bloomers aren't really doing her much justice either). But the studded leather jacket makes up for the poor coordination. She looks amazing with her burgundy, pixie cut - it does box her into that image of the indie, versatile actor who takes on serious/ dramatic roles (ie. Emma Watson/ Carey Mulligan) but it really suits her especially in this shoot.

Suckerpunch comes out on Thursday.

Vanessa Hudgens is no sucker in this glitzy Jenny Packham number. For me, Baby V always seems to get it right. I know a lot of you just think of her as the Disney star from High School Musical – which is how my love for her began all those years ago (or maybe she's better known for her nude photo scandal), and although she may not be as good an actress as her co-stars in Suckerpunch (so I’ve heard from the reviews, nonetheless I’m so excited to see it) you can’t deny she has street cred and amazing red carpet styles. I especially love her day to day wear, she pulls off that easy chic boho ‘I woke up in the morning and threw on the first thing I saw but I still look gorgeous’ look – a mixture of Nicole Richie and the Olsen twins.

The neutrals with streaks of silver in this dress is stunning. It’s absolutely showered in sequins but the contrast between the pattern and the fabric is so subtle and very feminine (the updo with the curled whispy side strands is an added plus). I might have been staring a little too long at it but it looks likes unicorns around the bust (and from the back like lavenders). I love my minimalist chic so it’s not a surprise to see I'm dying (yes Rachel Zoe) the shapeless tee style of it around the waist which is tapered down at the hem. Such a pleasant surprise to see the cut out at the back which accentuates her gorgeous silhouette.

P.S. I’m back from my super long hiatus, hoping to turn this into a mixture of celeb style commentary and my personal style blog (over the summer I managed to bag myself a lovely boyfriend who conveniently enjoys taking photos in his spare time) so watch this space!
