pretty vacant.

At the start of the year, I took on the styling reigns again and worked with Christine on a shoot that was lucky enough to be picked up by Fashion Journal. It's my favourite piece of work to date and I was completely blown away by how amazing it turned out. You have an idea in your head of how it's supposed to look but it completely took me by surprise (in the best way possible). A big part of it was this stunner Rosie in front of the lens who really embodied the vibe of the shoot perfectly.

In terms of styling, I played on the contrast between masculine and feminine dressing - pairing a floaty jumpsuit with a tough leather jacket, or an oversized two piece pinstripe suit with a crop top. And of course my girl is always wearing sneakers to dress down her look (and for practicality purposes).

Look 2: Mink Pink jacket and pants, Evil Twin crop.
Look 5: Staple the Label trench and dress.

I'm so excited to finally be able to share a shoot I styled late last year that was picked up by Fashion Journal. I teamed up with the talented Cai again and put together something that was a little Russh inspired - candid, understated and slightly playful. I wanted the freedom to experiment with looks that are unconventional (by my standards at least), a little out of my comfort zone and less intentionally put together. I decided to pull all the pieces in the morning and style the looks while we were scouting for locations and prepping hair and makeup. I tried my hand at some layering and the underwear as outerwear while throwing in some food props for a bit of messy fun. Easy Come, Easy Go is all about sleeping in on a balmy summer day, skipping breakfast, eating junk food, looking effortless in the first thing pulled from the floordrobe and an afternoon to kill with not much to do but watch the cars go by.

Sometimes what you envisage is not always what is executed. Sometimes it's better. Christine and I knew after seeing Gabriel Lee's collection at Fashion Week earlier this year that we had to shoot with his pieces (and we did get our selfies with his floral brimmed caps). Thinking up a theme that was fresh and unique as his designs was at a standstill until it was so obvious what it should be. The crisp whites and soft lilacs, the caps, the sweatshirts and the frilled skirts pointed right towards tennis. With a touch of Alice in Wonderland whimsy courtesy of Cai's stockpile of tennis balls (that was totally unplanned but I'm so glad it happened), we ended up portraying a delicate, fragile yet extremely assertive woman   and a visually beautiful editorial the whole team is extremely proud of. It's definitely my favourite piece of styling work to date. The shoot was also picked up by our friends at Lovage Magazine who have also released Issue 3 as a physical mag so I'm even luckier that my best work to date is immortalised in print.

"Dreams can be fleeting and should be attempted whilst there is courage." Amen to that. Graduating from the Fashion Design Studio (the same one that launched the design careers of Dion Lee, Christopher Esber and Romance was Born) then working for countless years as a design and production assistant, sampling co-ordinator and pattern maker across casual and couture labels, Krystal Liu decided it was time for LIUK to come into fruition.  "There will never be a perfect time to start a dream."

Only into its second season, LIUK is a modern classic. Organic, unexpected and relaxed are three words Krystal used to describe her winter collection made purely from silks. Subtle draping, refined tailoring and sophisticated cut outs with bare backs framed by crepe flounces (nothing like showing a bit of skin), dictate an exploration of simple and pure ideas in design.

I was approached by Krystal (who conveniently ended up living in my neighbouring suburb) and jumped at the chance to be able play with pieces from her A/W offering. I teamed up with my one and only, Christine who lensed the mini editorial where we contrasted soft fluid shapes against architectural clean lines (and for anyone that thinks this looks familiar, yes this is UNSW).

When asked what she wants LIUK to look like in five years Krystal said, "I want LIUK to be well established in Australia and hopefully popping up in stores all over the world with a solid base of customers. A physical boutique would be perfect too so I can give customers a more intimate experience of the brand."

All pieces stocked at The Grand Social.

I can finally reveal to you some of my favourite shots from the Shirt Up editorial I worked on last year with Christine. Whilst pulling and returning pieces can be more time consuming than actually styling (do not ever attempt this without a car), it's oh so satisfying to see your vision come to life. I'm hoping to dabble a little more in styling this year (I do have a few more shoots in the works). It's great to be able to experiment with looks that I wouldn't usually wear (or couldn't because of my non model proportions) and have full creative control. This little shoot was kindly picked up by my friends at Lovage Magazine who have just released their second issue titled Rebel. To see the editorial in full along with some great interviews, features and photoshoots, you can purchase a copy of Lovage here.

Selamat sore all the way from Bali. Having an incredible time - white water rafting along the Ayung River, quad biking through the rice fields, having multiple dinners at various places in Seminyak. But more on that when I get back on Saturday. In the meantime, I thought I'd keep you all entertained with some behind the scenes shots from a shoot I styled late last year. I teamed up again with my talented photographer friend Christine and took to Walsh Bay for an exploration of a classic wardrobe essential: the button up shirt. Forgoing the staple crisp white shirt, we instead opted for variations on a theme - fuchsia, embroidered, sheer, pajama print and pleated shirt dress. I was stoked to have styled my first on location shoot (personally I think it's easier than studio because the background really helps pull all the other elements together) and had a great team supporting me. The shoot will be published in the second issue of Lovage magazine next month so keep an eye out for that!

I present to you part two of my shoot with the dream team. The concept behind this one was originally an all white shoot (to get you in the mood for summer) but I couldn't help adding some colour here after seeing this incredible shoot on Fashion Gone Rogue (which I unfortunately can't find the link to). Though not intentional, it's crazy to see just how easily we can completely transform the mood and direction with some simple hair, makeup and wardrobe changes. It ended up looking more like three separate looks from three separate shoots but hey, I'm proud of my first attempt (particularly that pastel sports luxe look boom!). This definitely won't be the last you see of my styling escapades.

A huge thank you to Undergroup Showroom, Mother & Father PR, Cirqlate PR, Park Avenue PR, Bespoke PR, Nine West and Samantha Wills and UNSW Photo Club for making this possible!

Super excited to share with you part one of my collab with Christine, Yenn and the UNSW Photo Club.

Life is full of unexpected surprises - I never thought that being squashed next to Christine  in the media pit backstage at Watson x Watson during MBFWA would result in an opportunity to style a shoot a few months later. I love the endless possibilities of styling - I no longer have to worry about whether a dress is going to chop off my legs, I am free to explore pieces and trends that I wouldn't normally consider wearing myself.

You'd think that giving me full stylistic direction would be a walk in the park but I honestly found it more difficult to come up with something on my own. Even more so I realised that I had to work much harder to make the looks visually stronger as I had no backdrop or location to carry the theme. Having a white background was like asking me to paint on a white canvas and start from scratch.

I was given a brief to style two stories with three looks each. The first was workwear inspired shoot, combining elements of the masculine and feminine. So you have very soft peplum and lace details contrasted with stronger elements so tailored pants, fitted designs and statement accessories.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Can't wait for you to see part two!
