monday muse. miranda kerr.

You know those things that get better with age? Like red wine or aged cheese? Well Miranda Kerr is one of them. Not meaning to say she's getting old or anything - she doesn't look a day past 23, but ever since she had baby Flynn last year I've taken much more notice of her off duty style. It's definitely become more refined and simple, but of course being Miranda, always chic. Having to look after a baby (and now a dog I hear) requires practical dressing - outfits that are easy to walk around in all day - run errands, push strollers, walk dogs, go to and from casting calls and shoots. And you can't go past a Celine tote to (stylishly) carry everything you need when you're always on the go.

I would define her newfound post maternity style as essentials dressing - white shirt, denim jacket, striped tee, leather jacket, printed denim, wool coat. Everything you could possibly need for a timeless, long-lasting wardrobe. To date, my favourite look has been her navy coat, wet look leggings and Marant sneakers. Super model, super mum.

So the moral of the story is: motherhood not only changes your outlook on life, but also your wardrobe. Sounds like next season's biggest trend is a babe in arm. Now who's with me?... Kidding!

Newsflash: beanies are no longer for skaters, bad hair days or ski trips! I know I already proclaimed my love for beanies on this blog only a month ago, but after receiving my Alexander Wang beanie in the mail last week, the flame has been re-ignited. Despite the fact it's not even beanie appropriate weather, I've endured a warm head just to wear my thick wool beanie - it was just too good to leave in the wardrobe until winter. Although the best part was walking around working telling everyone I had 'a Wang on my head.'

Casually browsing through Tommy Ton's street snaps on my lunch break, I realise I'm not the only one who enjoys a good old fashion beanie (although their choice is more justified due to the extreme cold). I've been thinking up possible outfit combinations to go with my new beanie but I keep reaching a dead end. But now I have plenty of proof that you don't need to dress like a boy to pull a beanie off.

I've been feeling a little uninspired lately. I think it's a combination of excessive hours at work, the holiday season and worrying about what the new year will be like. And as a result I haven't been posting as frequently as I would like to. But to fill the void I thought I might kick start your week with some inspiration.

It was probably not a good idea to watch Victoria's Secret Fashion Parade - doesn't really help my self esteem! I have to say each year the costumes and theming get a little tackier than the last (Club Pink was pretty bad although I suppose it tied in with Nicki Minaj. The Superhero one was my favourite) but I keep coming back to the gorgeous angels, their flashy smiles and cheeky winks (I seriously wish I could wink). This year marked the first runway show for newly inducted angel Karlie Kloss, who happens to be one of my favourite 'model of the moment' and was thus an easy choice for my Monday muse. Did I mention the girl is only 19 (that's a year younger than me) and has runway cred longer than her legs? And have you seen her legs in the Vogue Italia shoot? How are they even real? I love that Kloss started out as a classically trained ballerina - makes me think I could have been a model (I did ballet up until I was 13) which she says helped her modelling and grounded her runway walk. Not to mention posture. I won't forget the wonders that ballet did for my posture.

I'm considering making this a weekly post. Would you like to see more Monday muses?

I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw this image. Confession time (and this might gross you out) - but I'm a nail biter. There, I said it. Have been this way my whole life. Don't ask me why because I honestly have no clue as to how this bad habit came about (probably because I was bored) or that I should try applying that off tasting nail polish - unfortunately the will to eat normal tasting food outweighed my will to stop biting (the polish transferred onto any food I ate with my fingers). So you can understand why this picture gave me comfort. A model... who walked for Fendi... bites her nails. The type of girl we've always secretly wished we could be. It's nice to know I'm not the only one out there.

Of course I know what I'm missing out on. No nail polish collection or manicures (hey, one less thing to worry about?), they're perfect for playing guitar and piano and I can tap away on my iPhone like nobody's business. Hopefully it's just a habit that I'll grow out of one day. Can I grow out of something I've been subconsciously doing for the past sixteen years? Is there a possibility someone in the fashion world thinks this could become a trend? Yeah... right.

F U R

It seems I have an obsession to own a fur vest (faux of course), so what? I don't know why, but lately I've been wanting a fur vest - nothing too over the top of course (maybe a black one with some highlights?), I don't want to look like I killed and skinned an animal for my outfit - who would ever want that, I don't know (But then again, all our leather handbags and shoes and such come from animals too...) Somewhere along the track I seem to have attached the image of an all work no play editor of a magazine/ PR agent/ model/ photographer/ writer etc. in the fashion industry with a fur vest, and that's an image I've always wanted to aspire to. There's just something about it... it just commands style, chic and class - not to mention it keeps you warm and it's super soft to touch. I'm finding the easiest way to work it into an outfit is over blacks - black tee, black wet leggings, heels and a contrasting clutch or handbag. Seems to work like a charm!

Not too sure where to pursue this fur phase, or even if I can at all. My boyfriend detests the idea of it (we went to Bondi over the weekend and he would pull me away every time I caught a glimpse of some faux fur). In fact the only fur he likes is this...

Just an ongoing joke we have. But I could really do with some pho to warm me up on a cold winter day!
