the dark side.

I knew there was something about those Darth Vader inspired visors from Balenciaga, no matter how absurd they may look. I've been anticipating the fashion week season just to see if anyone would be game enough to wear it. Trust Anna Dello Russo and Hanneli to be daring enough to do so. Did anyone notice the sequins when they came down the runway last September? I sure didn't. A rather surprising element to include in an otherwise bold masculine piece. Striking from the back, slightly softer and more feminine from the front. It’s also a perfect way to highlight details of your outfit - like the way it brought out ADR’s clutch and matching red nails. If Darth Vader ever had a dark side female counterpart (which would have been Padme), I’m sure she would have opted for a sequinned helmet.

While most would see this as a fashion statement, I would find it more useful in avoiding social situations and avoiding eye contact. Like if you're having one of those off days where you feel like the world is against you and you’re not really interested in talking to anyone. Or you got dragged along to a party and don’t feel like engaging in small talk with strangers. Just thinking about all the scenarios it could be useful in is seriously making me consider buying one. Alternatively if you’re chasing after the HBIC title, this is guaranteed to instill fear in all  who cross your path. Now all that’s missing is a breathing problem and a lightsaber.

*Hey boyfriend, proud of my Star Wars references?

Oh you know, just another day in the life of the glamourous fashion editor/ socialite/ model/ fashionista/ photographer at London Fashion Week. They make it seem so normal, like it's no big deal. That this sort of thing happens all the time. I hope my life one day revolves around fashion week.

I'm currently in a love/ hate relationship with this continuous string of FW. On one hand I love seeing all the creativity and ingenuity that comes out of these shows, as well as the street style (thank you Phil Oh, Tommy Tom & Nam) but on the other hand I can't really deal with seeing so many pieces I could never afford let alone pull off and it makes me depressed that I'm stuck in the normalcies of life where people on the other side of the globe and just making the rounds at all shows. Life is unfair no?

My Twitter timeline, Facebook news feed and blogger updates are full of NYFW related posts and I have to say every post is killing me little by little. I'm not sure how much longer I can last. I haven't even begun looking at show reviews and collection overviews - I think the candids speak enough for themselves: of fast furious fabulous New York fashion. It's a little glimpse into the life of people who take fashion as more than a mode of expression. These people live in a different world, the rules and dress codes are far more serious and do not go unnoticed. NYFW is a culmination of hard work, stress, determination and preparation. The fashion world is on show, on and off the runway.

I've always been a big dreamer and NYC has long been my destination of choice. I could see myself living in an apartment overlooking Central Park with a giant wardrobe full of designer things, being invited to events and launches (or more likely working at them/ organising them), shopping at Sak's on the weekends with my girlfriends, taking morning jogs. Call me cliche but I have a gut feeling New York is where I belong (not that I've ever been there). I like the idea of a city brimming with vibrancy, culture and colour - a place where the energy is on 24/7. Maybe one day I'll be snapped by Tommy Ton or Phil Oh. That will be my gauge of success.

Does anyone see the resemblance to Nicole Warne?

Never been much of a fan of Oroton (in fact I've only ever considered it an accessories brand that I can buy things for my mum from), but these latest campaign images beg me to reconsider. Whoever in Oroton that decided to get Tommy Ton on board for their latest campaign shoot is a genius. They look so much more appealing and accessible and still stay true to the style JAK & JIL, which we've known and loved. Never seen anything like it from an accessories label (correct me if I'm wrong) - I would have never thought candid, cropped, outfit detail images would work so effectively on a campaign. It really works on both levels for the consumer (apologies for taking my marketing spin on this) - for the high fashion pack, synonomous for featuring on such style blogs and also for the masses who can really appreciate the everyday, mundane, caught in the moment shots. And I love the styling, really compliments the bags whilst not taking the attention away from it. I read it was Taylor Tomasi Hill's doing (and with the end result, I wouldn't be surprised). These looked amazing in the window of my local Oroton and would look equally as exciting as a double page spread in a magazine. I'm extremely impressed, especially for an Australian brand. It seems Oroton, that I have underestimated you. My bad.
