one knit three ways: work.

I always harp on about buying pieces in my wardrobe that are versatile, easy to wear and have longevity. But how often do I actually show you? I've long thought about doing a one item three ways feature to show just how truly adaptable certain pieces can be (not including jeans, sneakers or leather jackets - they can pretty much be worn in any situation) and here we are many moons later and I've finally gotten around to it.

I don't know about you, but when I buy something new I wear it to death for the first week or two (as much as I can without people noticing I'm a serial outfit repeater) and I found myself doing this with my Scanlan crepe knit. It's got a slightly higher front and dropped back which makes perfect for layering (even more so when you're a layering novice like me). So here it is: one knit, three ways.

This work look is quite conventional and nothing groundbreaking but not something I'm used to wearing. I've tried many times in the past to recreate the collared shirt under sweater but have failed. Obviously the cut of the sweater has a huge part to play, along with the fit of the shirt (too boyfriend and it looks a bit sloppy) and I've finally found the right items to complete this preppy combo.

bassically.

I did it. I bought pants. I haven't owned a pair of pants (denim not included) since high school where we were required to wear it during band performances. But that's what the office life does to you. Clearly I can't seem to let go of my sneaker addiction. My trusty Feit sneakers can almost be passed off as brogues and with the white side stripe reminiscent of Adidas tracksuit pants Sporty Spice style, I still somehow managed to turn a 9 to 5 look into an athleisure (my new favourite style buzzword) one. My knit collection is also slowly expanding with another Jac+ Jack addition, this time with a funnel neck sweater. I'm  taking baby steps towards a full blown turtle neck (I tend to like my necklines v-shaped or low). I'm learning that it's basically like wearing a scarf and a knit all rolled into one.

windy heart.

If there's one thing that that I've learnt this winter, it's that I feel the cold more than anyone else. My feet perpetually sit at 0 degrees regardless of whether I'm wearing thick socks and boots or Birkenstocks to the point they'll probably turn into icicles come August.  I'm constantly rugged up in my oversized coat with my oversized scarf wrapped around my neck (it consumes me) sitting at my desk with the heater turned up that my colleagues have started complaining how warm it s in our office.

Besides freezing my butt off, in the time I've been absent from the blog I also decided to go for the chop again (this has become a yearly occurrence), citing Lara Bingle's new lob as my inspiration. There's something so free and liberating about getting your hair cut, like you're getting rid of the old, excess baggage that you've been carrying around for months. Literally. Exercising with a long ponytail is dangerous to you and those around you. I've been giving my new do some serious volume (that Asian hair drastically lacks) but it seems like the wind got the better of me and turned it into a mop.

The one wardrobe essential that has been missing from my collection is a leather jacket, and now that I've finally found the one, I don't know how I managed to go without one for that long. My dream leather jacket has forever been the Acne Studios Mape though I've never been game enough to put that much money into a jacket (let alone any purchase for that matter... yet). I came across a sweet selection of new IRO on Green with Envy and figured if anyone knew how to make a mean leather jacket it would be French label, IRO - considering the leather jacket is consider a must to pull off Parisian chic. It was hefty purchase but a necessary one.

The satisfaction of finding the perfect something after months and months of scouring in store and online, tracking it down to try on and having it fit exactly the way you envisaged it, is like no other. It is a true accomplishment in its own right to acquire classic wardrobe pieces that are flattering, all quality and well constructed. I can cross off the perfect skinny jean (Acne Skin 5), the perfect denim jacket (Rag & Bone) and at last, the perfect white shirt.

It treads the line between casual and classy with a loose, relaxed fit, a dropped back hem constructed in a soft but not super sheer cotton. Jac+ Jack are on the money with this shirt one, as with the rest of collection over the last few months. I've purchased three shirts and a pair of pants in the span of three months. I did however have a hard time choosing between three white shirts currently in store and after asking Jack which of the three I should buy, he responded "You know it really shouldn't be hard to pick a white shirt. It's a white shirt."

ways to go.

After debating over whether to keep my new Chanel babies preserved in pristine condition, I bit the bullet, took them out for a spin and haven't taken them off since. All shoes deserve to be worn! I paired them with my standard go-to all black everything look - the failsafe option I throw on when Jack tells me he's picking me up for breakfast and I only have five minutes to get ready. And you know how impatient men get when you keep them waiting, especially when they're hungry.

My fascination with boho bags continues with this bold fold over clutch from the Luxe Project, a mother/ daughter team who thought to take embroidered fabrics from South East Asian hill tribes, most of which are deconstructed ceremonial garments and baby carriers and turn them into bags, clutches and weekenders where no two pieces are the same. I love this kind of handicraft work that you just can't get in Australia (and to be honest I couldn't find anything like this when I was in Bali). I'm on team neutrals so anything that breathes a bit of life into my looks is always welcome change. Looks like I'm ready for any island getaway.

Believe it or not, there is actually a functional purpose to hats. After burning the top of my head with a day of snorkelling and kayaking, my obsession with hats is no longer stylistically driven. On a 15 day cruise, I armed myself with a Kate Sylvester baseball cap, panama hat and this ridiculously wide brimmed suitcase unfriendly/ inevitable carry-on hat. I was a little taken aback by the brim size, but let's be honest - bigger is better, especially when sun safety related. And if ever there was a time to wear an over the top hat, it's definitely when you're cruising around the South Pacific.

Unfortunately when you're carting around headwear that enters triple digit territory, it's not all that practical when you refuse to take it ashore in the fear it gets damaged/ misplaced/ stolen. That's the problem when I pack for holidays. I'm always afraid of taking my nicer things in case anything happens to them but at the same time I yearn to be the 'glamourous' traveller and take fab tourist snaps that make your friends and followers on social media jealous. You dig?

These pictures were taken on the beautiful Lifou, part of the Loyalty Islands (neighbouring New Caledonia). Known as a snorkelling destination, it did not disappoint. We snorkelled around Jinek Bay - which dare I say was actually better than the Great Barrier Reef. We pretty much played spot the characters from Finding Nemo while we were snorkelling and surprisingly found most of the species including clownfish and moorish idol (Gill) in Lifou. I realise that Finding Nemo is not an entirely accurate representation of marine life.
