wallflower.

I did it. I found the epitome of man repelling. Drop crotch pants - or better known to some as poo pants. Once upon a time, I was against them too. No to harem pants, low riders and looking like a fool with your pants on the ground. That was until I tried on these Bassike jeans. That was when I changed my tune. Unfortunately Jack and the male population have yet to see the light.

These pants have magical man repelling powers that Leandra herself would be proud of. But also powers of extreme comfort and an effortless IDGAF about whether you approve of my pants vibe. I would highly recommend you get yourself to a Bassike store and try them on for yourselves before you judge them. Skinny jeans can be all kinds of wonderful but some days you just really don't want to put your legs through that sort of pain/ lack of movement. So that's where the poo pants come in.

Special thanks to the girl behind the lens Christine, who possesses her own sort of magical powers with her ability to make me look way cooler than what I actually am. The graphic bomber and aviators combo definitely helped my cause.

marble.

It takes a very special kind of print to sneak its way into my neutral orientated, monochrome dominated and stripe filled wardrobe. I couldn't go past the sleek marble print paired back with the mesh overlay contrast - a luxe take on the classic tee shirt with a sneaky back cut out and corset shape. Naturally, I chose to dress it down with leather shorts and wedge sneakers.

Things are absolutely jam-packed in my corner. I've found a job which I love (as far away from the CBD as it may be) and launched my foray into the world of health and fitness with a new blog. The past week has been crazy to say the least - I won free tickets to the Phoenix sideshow, partied with Rudimental and Channel V on the Island, scored tickets to Future Music with work and ended up at a cozy gig featuring Ryan Hemsworth and Baauer. I'm all work, all play.

Ruby Sees All top, UNIF.M shorts, Isabel Marant sneakers.

voodoo.

Caslazur bomber, Theory tank, ASOS shorts, Isabel Marant sneakers, Karen Walker sunglasses, 3.1 Phillip Lim bag.

With the weather acting a little bipolar lately (I got caught out in the pouring rain this morning and in the middle of summer), I haven't been able to leave the house without my trusty bomber (tied around the waist when not required). It started with my classic black Acne bomber that I acquired around my birthday and was a little afraid of not being able to get enough wear out of it until next winter. How wrong I was.

If you're a long time stalker of this blog, you'll know that colour or prints aren't really my thing but there is something inherently cool about this Caslazur number. Maybe it's the charm of the draped silk bomber or the bold graphic look-a-little-closer-print that is really made up of skulls, bugs, bones and teeth. Or my growing fascination with voodoo (and witchcraft) induced by watching all that American Horror Story Coven.

My apologies for the long intervals between posts. Work is just crazy busy and by the time I get home after my hour commute all I want to do is sleep. Eat, sleep, work, repeat. That's basically my routine right now. Somehow I will find a way to include blog and exercise in there.

birthday suit.

Here it is. The birthday suit in all it's glory. And for those of you who were saying how perfect they would look together, I may have had that planned from the start. As incredible as it is to be decked out in all Acne everything, it's slightly scary to think about the combined price tag for this getup. Four digits. Gulp. Still not as bad as high roller Jack who recently acquired a bespoke suit from Herringbone. I'm constantly torn between whether to buy, buy, buy or save for the many overseas adventures I intend to take next year and then I'm dragged back down to reality by mother who reminds me she none of the luxuries I do now and how I should just save up for a house. That's about the least of my worries right now.

Back to the Acne. If you're on the shorter side I'd highly recommend trying the Skin 5's. They'e slightly cropped (which means the perfect length for us), slim leg and super skinny fit. As for the bomber, I'm finding it extremely hard to part with given the increase in temperature lately. I'm more than happy to boil as long as it's in this bomber. Raybans included for a Top Gun/ BAMF vibe.

sweater weather.

J Crew sweater, J Brand jeans, Isabel Marant sneakers.

When my car windows start fogging up every five seconds without the AC on and I find myself reaching for the black coat, black jeans and black boots combo I know it’s well and truly winter. Undoubtedly my favourite fashion supply to stock up on each season has been the thin knit (and yes I happen to be wearing one right now), little sister to the chunky oversized one. Possibly it’s biggest selling point is its ability to be layered under my fitted jackets without looking like the Michelin man in the arms and be able to wear it during the transition seasons with shorts and skirts. My secret weapon to amp up its coziness? Uniqlo thermals (I now have five from two trips Jack has made to Japan) which have a low enough scoop-neck to be invisible under my knits, jumpers and sweaters – sorry Kathmandu, you just never ‘cut’ it.
It is weird however, wearing a sweater without a layer underneath (you can’t see the v neck but even my faithful Uniqlo don’t make thermals with that kind of a neckline, but then again that would be almost counterproductive) but I’ll overlook that semi-wool itchy feeling because I really like the way J Crew styled it on their website. But the navy is just a tad too dark and the exact shade of my woollen school jumper I would wear on top of my white shirt and navy tunic. If I were you, I’d suggested the staple heather grey or navy dockside. I hear white jeans are making a comeback this winter too and I personally love the idea of wearing something as unpractical as white jeans (only to the clumsy like myself) to give a fresh, clean spin on an otherwise neutral and muted colour scheme of black, grey and navy.
In other news, Google Reader will be retiring on July 1, so make sure you follow me (and all your other saved blogs on Google for that matter) on Bloglovin' to keep up to date with my latest happenings.

girl stuff. boy stuff.

Bassike layering singlet (that I'm wearing as a dress because I'm that short), Jack's parka from Japan, Isabel Marant sneakers (Photos by Debra Navaratnam)

Girl stuff, boy stuff, girl stuff and don't forget the boy stuff. Does anyone else remember this mediocre animated program that used to air on the ABC right before the 6 o'clock news? Well I took the boy's stuff and made it my own. Who needs boyfriend jeans when you can wear your boyfriend's actual clothes. I couldn't have picked a more perfect day to whip out Jack's impulse purchase from his recent trip to Japan. Hey, if you're having second thoughts I'll gladly take it off your hands. The huge hood was exactly what I needed to shelter my freshly chopped hair from the downpour.

Speaking of which, I decided to go back to short hair. Some girls have this unbreakable bond with their hair (exhibit a: the girls on ANTM who have a breakdown during the makeover episode) but me, I really couldn't care. Hair is hair. Once I get bored with my look I'll try something else. I've always found short hair suited me more though it makes me look like a splitting image of my mother. Stoked to have a lighter ponytail swinging side to side when I run but I'll have to forgo the beanies and caps for a bit. They don't quite suit the shorter cut. No doubt in two weeks I'll probably complain about how I miss my longer mane and then vow to grow it out for two years (it's a vicious cycle).

Winter is coming (oh yes who else is excited GoT is back to its regular programmed schedule) and I'm already in the process of rebuilding my winter wears. My wardrobe is weighted towards the summer side so I tend to wear the same thing over and over come cold temperatures. I get sick of wearing the one coat, one sweater and one pair of jeans for six months that I have to start again from scratch every time winter comes along. I can tick off two layering knits and one sweatshirt so far but I'm still on the hunt for the perfect denim jacket, leather jacket, navy parka and bomber. In the meantime I'll just keep stealing Jack's parka. I don't ask for much, do I?

the great escape.

I've been reluctant to post this last outfit savouring every last memory of Bali before I get back into my uni headspace. So I'm sad to say that this is my final look from the beautiful Bali and I'll soon be back to posting outfits with repetitive, mundane and typically Australian locations. Yawn. I'm so stoked with the way all my photos turned out so a huge shout out to my best friend for stepping up the role of blog photographer for the week (as well as being amazing company and a cooperative travel partner). I think I'm going to have to start making these girl getaways an annual affair.

If you followed me on Instagram you'll know Deb and I were surprised with an incredible upgrade to our accommodation in Ubud. We weren't big on splurging on hotels as we anticipated we wouldn't use it for anything other than sleeping but the Ubud Village Resort and Spa changed our mind. Our conveniently located hotel was under construction so they moved our stay to their resort which was slightly out of the way, but once we saw the place we couldn't have cared less. Let's just say we didn't really get out to explore Ubud - we were too busy stuffing ourselves at our complementary breakfast and afternoon tea, swimming in the circular pool and our own private pool and relaxing in our outside bath.  These were taken on the beautiful grounds of our resort, tucked away in the hillsides of Ubud amongst rice paddies. The perfect getaway destination. If anyone's looking for accom in Ubud I would hands down recommend this place - the service was flawless. Everyone knew our names and addressed us as Miss Melissa and Miss Debra.

After the ode to my versatile friend, the navy playsuit, I have once again found myself captivated by this chambray One Teaspoon number which in some angles looks like a mini dress. Perhaps I have found the perfect solution to my stunted growth. Oh and that thing you see on my thigh isn't a mark on your screen - it's my battlescar from a quad biking accident (which was slightly scary at the time though hilarious in hindsight). I was on a tandem bike with Deb casually driving through the rice fields when I was caught off guard by the unsealed road and semi lost control of my steering and veered us off the road and into a banana tree. Badass.

w is for.

Armor Lux top, Kahlo skirt, Isabel Marant sneakers, eQUIP necklace, Michael Kors watch, Popetto bracelet, Sabre sunglasses.

Last time I showed you the entrance to The W Hotel and if that wasn't grand enough, I decided to return the following day and shoot inside the resort by their three level pool. Though we arrived in time for golden hour, we missed out on swimming in their pool - which was practically empty. Who goes on holiday and doesn't swim? We made the rookie mistake of asking for towels and followed by the pool attendant asking us for our room number to which we replied 'oh we don't actually stay here.' Should have just guessed a number. Or better still, brought our own towels.

Despite our lack of treading water in a spacious pool we ended up poolside/ beachside sipping on mocktails as the sun set behind the clouds. If there's one thing Bali has an abundance of besides bodies of water it's mocktails which is great for non-drinkers like myself. And they're priced appropriately (unlike here in Australia). After all that rambling the moral of the story is: visit The W or if you have the money, stay at The W. I know I would.

As for the outfit, the striped breton and leather skirt are two wardrobe staples that you've seen pop up on the blog more times than you probably should. I promise I have other clothes. Jazzed up these usual suspects with some neck candy from eQUIP and arm candy from Popetto. Look at me slowly easing up to jewellery. I have only one look left to post from Bali. Sad face, sad face.

ball so hard.

Let me introduce you to my first love. Before fashion (but maybe not before ponies) there was basketball. If you've met me in real life, you'd know that I'm pretty short and not of the ballin' kind at all. But it's been a sport I've played since I was 10 - initially as a way to spend more time with my friends and to look more like a tomboy. It stuck with me throughout high school where I ending up refereeing at local and school competitions and eventually ended up playing representative basketball for a year. I dropped it during the serious high school/ HSC years but realised how much I missed it after shooting some hoops in between this shoot. Shoot. How confusing.

This look is really an ode to my favourite sport. After finally tracking down this Celeste Tesoriero tee and getting a delivery from Matches with my Marants just as I was walking out the door - it only made sense to put together a varsity/ college/ sports inspired look. I was so convincing that the guys that were playing on the other court invited us to play with them until they realised I was wearing wedge sneakers and a sequin mini skirt (though I did a few sneaky lay ups and free throws in them... that was challenging). You'll be happy to know that I have since joined a mixed team with my friends from work and am back on the court where I belong.

I'm heading off to Bali today with Debra. Most of my suitcase is actually filled with pieces I plan on shooting while I'm there (plenty of posts with tropical backgrounds to come) but unfortunately won't be taking my laptop so no updates from me for a week. Do not despair, in the interim you can keep up with our #instagramholiday by following @_melissao or heading to the blog Facebook page!

pumped up kicks.

Bobby Wedge Suede Sneakers (try Matches, Forward by Elyse Walker, Net-A-Porter and La Garconne)

Bobby meet world. After months of debating 'should I, shouldn't I?', pondering the life span of the wedge sneaker trend, I finally committed. After some serious lurking on this Purse Forum thread (highly recommended if you need any help with sizing/ who has stock) and frequenting online stockists daily, I settled on this beautiful Gris/ light grey (it was that or black or cream) which seems to change colour depending on the light. It's part grey, part taupe and part khaki - a combination of all my favourite last season shades. I can definitely vouch for the versatility of these kicks (as can everyone else who owns a pair) and I love that they make me look taller without the pain of heels.

If you plan on buying anything designer, I'd also recommend Matches who shipped these shoes within three hours of me ordering. I purchased them Friday afternoon and received them Tuesday morning. Although I had to pay for it, I was impressed with the speed, packaging and service with my email enquiries.

Expect a post overload this next week. I've been out of action for the last week trying to spend as much time with Jack before he jets off to Japan for two weeks. I've got a whole bunch of posts I want to get through before I go to Bali next Friday so keep your eyes peeled for an outfit post, product reviews and my personal favourite, packing flat lays!
